This essay is a keeper. It speaks a lot of truth. I've found that it is wise to only spend further time with academics who are interested in people and their personal life experience. When I tell my personal story and an academic isn't interested, I can reasonable conclude they also won't be open to new ideas.
This was just the thing I needed to read. I changed my research paper from what Confucian governance is to how do I live my life according to Confucianism and why do I want to. Drastic difference, but now I feel so much more connected to it. Maybe by example others will give him a read without expectations of misery.
